WINTER NEWSLETTER 2008 NEW CONSTITUTION Following our AGM in May of last year it was agreed that our constitution should be up-dated to take account of new legislation and various changes to the child bereavement support service. Following the agreement of 66% of our members this new constitution (as circulated) has been adopted. A copy of the new constitution will always be available in our office at Raigmore Hospital and copies will be available at the Volunteers’ Evening on Monday the 18th of February 2008.
DONATIONS/FUND RAISING We have been very fortunate, recently, to receive a quite of few donations. A substantial personal donation was made following Debbie’s talk to the Loch Ness Rotary, in addition to the donation from the Rotary Club. Various smaller personal donations have also been received. One of our parents/carers undertook a sponsored swim to raise money for the Crocus Group. Sheila has swum a total of 1,280 lengths, 20 miles and, to date, raised a total of £550 through her Justgiving site which is open until the 1st of June 2008. Well done, Sheila! Our Christmas Raffle raised £255.
AWARENESS DAY 2008 This year’s Awareness Day will be held on Tuesday the 30th of September at the Council Chambers on Glenurquhart Road, Inverness. Any volunteers interested in joining the planning group or with any ideas for a topic for the day should contact Debbie(01463 704000 ext 6029 or 0789 9062 397).
CROCUS CLUB The Crocus Club, held on the first Tuesday of the month at the SCY Centre at Culloden between 7 and 8pm continues to be a great success, with on average 17 children attending each month. Anyone interested in getting involved with this should contact Debbie.
As some of the children attending the Crocus Club are getting older it has been suggested we consider running a similar group specifically for teenagers. Funding could probably be obtained from the Scottish Community Foundation for this venture and we would be looking for volunteers interested in becoming involved with this age group.
VOLUNTEERS’ EVENING Debbie and Eric delivered an induction training programme at our volunteers’ evening last November. Handouts from this very successful evening are still available. Our next volunteers’ evening is on Monday the 18th of February at 6.30pm in the Netley Centre of the Highland Hospice. Debbie will speak about a weekend she spent at a Winston’s Wish “suicide camp”. CHILD PROTECTION Following our Child Protection training last summer a new policy has been drawn up for the group. A copy of our Child Protection flow chart will be circulated to all volunteers in the near future.
